Unfortunately, few animation specifications have been released to the public domain.
While most can be acquired from ANSI and ISO,
you have to pay $200US+ for each spec.
Some standard formats include MPEG, Microsoft's AVI and Apple's Quicktime.
The GIF89a specification provides extensions that are used by some web browsers to support animated GIFs.
