These instructions assume that you have correctly installed Windows and Winsock, have acquired MUTT_01K.ZIP and are a reasonably sophisticated Windows user: you can unzip files, read/edit text files, execute Windows programs, use telnet and know how to connect to a mud.
Note: Lite has been successfully tested with the following stack/SLIP/PPP Winsocks: Microsoft, NetManage/Chameleon, Trumpet, Compuserve/Spry, AOL and Twinsock. Lite (and many other async applications) will not work with FTP's PCTCP Winsock.
The contents of the zip'd archive are:
MUTT_LIT.EXE The MUTT(tm) Lite executable MUTT_01K.TXT A readme file MUTT_LIT.WRI The help file SCRIPTS\ SCRIPTS.TXT A description of the following script files: GENERIC.MUT Will connect to most muds SIMPLE.MUT A simple example script file DEBUG.MUTT Tests that script file is working LP.MUT Connects to most LP muds DIKU.MUT Connects to most DIKU muds TINY.MUT Connects to most TINY muds TINYMUTT.MUT Another TINY mud script file MEDIEVIA.MUT Connects to Medievia AA.MUT Connects to Ancient Anguish RANGER.MUT A special AA example script file SOUNDS\ ZING.WAV A sample .WAV sound BOING.WAV A sample .WAV sound RIBBIT.WAV A sample .WAV soundYou can find additional script files at: ftp://www.graphcomp.com/msw/mutt/scripts.
Note: graphcomp's FTP server is a non-unix server - if you get odd directory listings from your FTP client, try changing your connection settings to a different type, or use a non-GUI ftp client.
MUTT(tm) Lite will automatically install a MUTT.INI file in your Windows directory with default settings enabled.
Once MUTT(tm) Lite has started, choose "Open" in the Files menu and fill in your character name, and the IP address and port number of your mud.
Selecting "OK" will connect you to the mud, much like a telnet client. That's it!
telnet://host.domain:port
Your web client must have MUTT_LIT.EXE set as it's telnet application.
Note: most web clients do not provide a mechanism for passing telnet parameters, so information such as script name, character and password cannot be currently used via URL.
Alternately, you can launch MUTT(tm) using the following commandline arguments:
/A=HostAddress /N=PortNumber /S=ScriptFile /C=CharacterName /P=PassWord
If any of these values are defined, MUTT(tm) will automatically open a session dialog, with these default values.
If no path is given for the script file, MUTT(tm) will first search its SCRIPTS subdirectory, then its main directory.
Other commandline options include:
/D This enables script debugging; no connection will be made.
MUTT(tm) Lite supports automatic login. First, select one of the provided login script files, such as GENERIC.MUT, in the Open dialog "script" field. Then enter your character name, password, mud's IP address and port number.
If your mud character is an already existing character on the mud, just select the OK button; MUTT(tm) Lite will attempt to log you in.
If you wish to create a new character, select the New button; MUTT(tm) Lite will attempt to create the character on the mud for you.
Note: all muds are different, you may need to modify your script file to correctly log onto your mud.
