SLIP and PPP Connections

Two standard protocols are commonly used for connecting to internet hosts over a serial line: Serial Line Interface Protocol (SLIP) and Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP).

SLIP is slightly more prevalent, but PPP is a more robust protocol and is gaining in popularity.

If you are connecting to a service provider, find out which they support (most providers support both) and then find out which protocol your Winsock supports. Then coordinate with the provider to insure that your SLIP/PPP configuration matches theirs.
