Pompeii
Pompeii turned out to be far more interesting than I had expected. Firstly,
it is large. Secondly, the amount of preserved art, murals,
mosaics and architecture is outstanding. That the vivid colors and intricate
tile mosaics survived is amazing.
A large part of Pompeii is still buried in volcanic ash; it will be some
time before all of it is recovered. I recommend that you arrive early
and plan to spend most of the day there - bring a lunch and some water
bottles - and lots of film.
